Feeding babies and toddlers

The first two years of life is a time of rapid growth and development

Essential nutrients required for growth and development include:

  • Iron and zinc for healthy growth, brain development and the ability to fight infections
  • Omega-3 for brain and visual development
  • Calcium for strong bones and teeth
  • Protein for healthy growth and development

From 6 months of age, iron and zinc stores become depleted

At this stage, it is important to start introducing good sources of these nutrients, such as red meat and iron-fortified baby cereal.

Read our new brochure How to make every bite count! [840 KB] for:

  • Advice on preparing red meat suitable for each stage of your babies’ development.
  • Nutritious and delicious recipes which will feed your baby, toddler and the whole family from one meal.
